BIG KUDOOS!!!! It's one of the best electronic benefits I've seen from the US Govt for the every day boater. What a great re-packing and re-use of existing info in a modern format! If I want to go boating anywhere in the USA and territories, there is the info!!! The only thing better would be to be able to download the chart image and the display tool to a PC for use later. Having to use the Internet on wireless link offshore would be expensive and probably slow. But that aside, great work. I'm impressed!!!

2/1/2008

This is an excellent tool to get some reference information when sitting at your desk. It would be great to get distance and bearings but this is a huge step. Thanks

I just want to congratulate you folks for providing a fabulous service. Even a poor person can find their way anywhere thanks to you good folks. I find the Raster Charts great for figuring out my holidays. When combined with Google and MacENC your charts ensure that route finding is easy as pie. Thanks again. Amateur Navigator.

If I'm planning a trip out fishing I can review the location. For safety reasons I can also let my wife see the area were fishing in. Thanks keep up the good work!!!!

Love the chart viewer. Instead of browsing to a location, is there a way to specify the chart, latitude, longitude and perhaps a zoom level in the URL? We'd like to publish links to charts of our destinations..... Thanks!

1/28/2008

I used your online chart viewer for the first time today. I think it's a great idea. It was very easy to use, it ran quickly on my computer, and best of all (being an Apple Macintosh used), it ran period. As a Mac user, there aren't many options for chart-viewing software. The one that I use today runs much slower than your version. Needless to say, I'll make use of yours primarily, now. One improvement could be the ability to auto-load the adjacent chart from the viewer, instead of having to switch back to the charts list and selecting it from there. It's just a minor inconvenience. Thanks for this service.

This service is very useful, especially in my industry of Surveying. We conduct surveys on alot of leases offshore and are always looking a ways to augment our information with government information. It provides the client with a greater sense of professionalism and also provides us a way to reference our products. But, it would be much more helpful if this information was also in AutoCad (dwg or dxf) format.

1/13/2008

I think the online chart viewer and all the charts are the best thing on the internet!  Please do not ever remove them.

1/9/2008

I think the charts are wonderful. If I've not missed it, it would be nice once you locate the chart you need that there would be a link of as where to buy it. Also, it'd be nice if there was a "click-save as", OK, I'm going too far.  Thanks

1/5/2008

This is a great service.  We use it for planning sail trips and use the regular printed charts for navigation.  Thanks

Providing solicited feedback on On-Line Chart Viewer materials....http://ocsdata.ncd.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/ Extremely useful info and presentation. I primarily use this for planning boating/fishing outings on Delaware and Chesapeake Bays. Nice to have at my fingertips on-line. App works really well.

11/27/2007

A wonderful research tool. It would be beneficial if more of the chart could be printed on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. The current system only prints a very small area. Thanks.

11/22/2007

I think the on-line chart viewer is great! Beats screwing around with ARCGIS! Suggestion for improvement - Add the ability to get GPS coordinate off chart where click mouse. That would be awesome! Thanks.

11/20/2007

Feedback - this is an awesome site, and an awesome capability. Uses: route planning. I review these charts as part of more detailed route planning, then overlay the planned route on my regular maps. I haven't figured out how to print from these yet, and think that such a feature may be useful, although I think I can also understand why you may no want that done for navigational purposes. However, I do think that providing an option to print a particular view would be very useful. Excellent work and use of taxpayer $$$ !!

11/20/2007

…. Love the site and my members love it even more, thanks!

11/20/2007

Not an inquiry, this is KUDOS and THANKS! What a wonderful website! We are not exactly in the boating season right now in Maryland (boat gets winterized tomorrow) but this will be great for planning and dreaming. I'll be interested to see how these print out. THANK YOU!

11/17/2007

Great improvement to the online chart viewer--much quicker and view area very improved--keep up the good work. Thanks

10/19/2007

This is to congratulate you on offering the On-Line Chart Viewer. I'm teaching a class on lighthouses and they are very useful in showing the class how lighthouses are identified by their flashing characteristics. I'm impressed!

10/15/2007

Thank you for the on-line service with charts. We are new to boating, and looking at charts on-line helps our basic education, especially Chart 1, and points us in the direction to what charts we need to purchase. Thanks again for this great service!

7/31/2007 4:59 PM

it is excellent - now i don't have to hassle to find what i am looking for and ordering the charts i want in a waterproof format

also - just checking details if i need or if a chart for an area of interest is even available. allows one stop peeking vs. downloads and tracking thru sites that do not transfer well.

7/30/2007 9:51 AM

Gentlemen:

Great job! Very user friendly and fascinating to be able to see the whole areas one wants to see. Thank you, very much,

7/27/2007 2:13 PM

I would use these to plot courses and pick of way point to enter into my GPS, It would be helpful if the system could be programmed to, at the least, show position of the cursor and even plot waypoints and headings. Printable to take to the boat for input into our GPS.

Thanks

7/27/2007 11:04 AM

Hi,

I just went to visit your raster scan charts, and I'm impressed! You guys and gals have put together a valueable resource for average boaters. I've cruised my 55 ft ketch from L.I.Sound to Venezula and checked some of the charts to remenisce, a process also known as planning the next sojourn. I draw 6 ft and have traveled the ICW (bump, bump) and gone outside where prudent. I mention this as a suggestion because as I tried to follow some of the twisty river routes the ICW follows, it was difficult to follow using the locator chart provided on the left side of the screen. Perhaps for charts that are mostly depictions of land---as a river is--- the left side locator chart could be omitted and the entire screen be devoted to showing more of the river and the user would simply pan his/her way along.

Also, if you could incorporate the "chart catalog" type of picture along side of the chart numerical list it would be much easier to find the chart of particular interest. The CG's men and women use this info every day and know the charts by they're various landmark designations, but the average mariner is hard pressed to figure out what area the chart covers guided only by names of features 2, 3, or 4 hundred miles away. This info is already available, it's a matter of putting it in a meaningful place.

Thank you for doing such a wonderful job and making this info easily available. I really believe the accessability you have provided will certainly save some property damage from groundings and perhaps even save lives by providing "novice" boat operators with an inexpensive way of learning to plan. The access (website) for this resource should be required to be printed on every standard "bill of sale" or titling document used throughout the country. Word needs to get out---I stumbled on the W/S address burried in a Sounding's newspaper article.

Kudos for recognizing a need and responding with a job well done.

                           Sincerely,

Are you down now?

7/24/2007 3:50 PM

I have tried ChartViewer several times in the last two hours and it will not function.  “Site Not Available”

Can you help?

7/23/2007 10:04 PM

This service is fantastic. I just discovered this service in this month's SAIL magazine, and I've just started looking through the charts. The viewer worked fine with all the Atlantic Coast charts that I pulled up, and the level of detail was great.

Besides recreational and commercial captains, this service will be great for fishermen and coastal homeowners. I really like the other links you've posted on this page....I had no idea that all of this was available.

 Thanks!!!!

7/23/2007 1:36 PM

You chart 17360 does not display at all.

7/20/2007 9:52 PM

The concept is great.  I will and have used it already to check if my current charts are up to date before I take a cruise on the Chesapeake Bay.  Perhaps the chart colors could use a little more contrast.

I have noted one typo, spelling of Virgin in chart listings as shown below:

Virgin Islands-Visgin Gorda to St. Thomas and St. Croix;Krause Lagoon Channel

7/20/2007 12:31 PM

This is one of the best chart services available.

You enable sailors to view a specific area in excellent detail which is very helpful  in planning and enhancing to boating safety.

Thank you

7/20/2007 11:04 AM

Great! I love it! A terrific example of "my tax dollars at work."

Thank you!

7/17/2007 11:52 PM

Chart 16708 is misoriented by 90 degrees and graytoned.

7/17/2007 6:43 PM

I like the the Chart Viewer for browsing for charts that I intend to
download in BSB format. It is easier than the RNC download pages.

One question: How do you easily tell the up-to-date chart edition with
the viewer? No problem was found with the rendition of the charts
viewed.

7/16/2007 6:12 PM

Could not get 12316 to display. It worked fine for surrounding files.

No charts will open tonight…………….I am clicking to open Atlantic Coast charts…………the response is “Invalid name”.   I know this is an error because I open these charts nearly every day.

7/12/2007 12:42 PM

I was unable to open chart 12235 but could open others.

7/12/2007 9:49 AM

How do you view the reverse side of a chart.  Chart #11411 for instance is tampa to port richey, but only the northern portion is available.

7/11/2007 2:50 PM

Since sending the email below I've checked other charts, most of which had no problem. The following did have the same error though:

invalid file name (D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/18524.axs)
invalid file name (D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/18525.axs)
invalid file name (D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/18541.axs)

Begin forwarded message:

Hello,

I tried to access chart #18531(Columbia River Vancouver to Bonneville) today and received the following error message. My husband and I use the viewer regularly. This is the first time it hasn't loaded.

invalid file name (D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/18531.axs)

Thanks for having these charts available online. We are new to boating on the Columbia. The charts are a great resource, especially when used in conjunction with the info we get from the NW River Forcast Center.

7/11/2007 1:19 PM

I was unable to get charts 18523, 18524, 18525, and 18531 to open in the on-line viewer. Is there something special about these charts?

7/10/2007 10:37 PM

Hi.  Your new online chart service is great.  Unfortunately, there a number of bad links for the charts I was interested in.  Specifically, Chart 18427 for Anacortes, http://205.156.4.52/cgi-bin/EyeSpy.dll?launchpad&D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/18427.axs&wsx=750&wsy=550&bgcolor=ffffff&aligX=1&aligY=1 generates this error:
invalid file name (D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/18427.axs)

 Ditto for chart 18441.

In addition, for charts that do work, when you click on the region of interest on the small map on the left, the region moves but the chart on the right does not zoom into that section.

I am kind of stuck as I could not download any ENC charts as your user agreement click through does not work either (get a bad link when I agree to the terms).  And the online viewer lacks the charts I need.  Appreciate fixing at least one or the other.

 Best regards,

When trying to view chart 14883 I get an error message, Other charts view properly.

7/10/2007 4:33 PM

Some of the charts in  NY areas, like #13209, is now displayed only in Black and white and the direction has changed from north on top to east on top of the chart.
Thank you

7/10/2007 3:04 PM

Hi,

There are some charts with black, gray and white colors only.

7/10/2007 3:04 PM

I was attempting to view the charts for the Pensacola Florida region and there was an error in the downloads

Thank You

7/10/2007 1:57 PM

Just thought I would send some positive feedback.  Fantastic resource.  No
substitute for a full-sized paper chart, of course, but if you're just
exploring options, it's great not to have to buy the charts.

Some form of continuous scrolling (e.g., Google maps-style) would be my only
recommendation.

Thanks for the good work.

Noticed today that chart 1520 would not open, and that 152 1 is oriented upside down.

Thanks.

I recently came upon your online chart viewer and am very pleased with it. It is a great source for update to my chart. I navigate near shore in the Beaufort and Harkers Island area of North Carolina. There are many channels and lots of shallow waters, new bouys etc. and have made many notations on my chart and this helps me to verify changes and to know what to look for. Thanks.

6/18/2007 8:30 AM

Chart viewer group,

This is a great idea and a very helpful tool. I hope the service is continued and improved regularly. I am new to boating in the area and need to find out more about the area around me. I could never afford to purchase all of the charts just to answer questions about an area that I may never visit. Being able to preview an area helps me make a decision as to where to visit and purchase paper charts for. Using your charts I can take a virtual tour and even dream a little.

Thanks for the preview of boating conditions in my area.

Great tool for selecting charts!

Thank you.

6/7/2007 12:24 AM

Fantastic service.  Great for planning.  One aught to be able to click and drag the box on the small overview chart on the left side of the screen to change position of the larger image, much like you can with Google Maps.

6/4/2007 12:28 PM

Dear Sirs;

Thank you for giving the users the ability to provide feedback...

Today I discovered the Chart Viewer.  I would like to plant a flag and call it mine, however there is need for improvement.

I was viewing "Atlantic Coast catalog" and there is a wonderful list of charts that prove to be useful BUT.....

There is no composite of the whole.  You would have to know in advance which chart to pull.

I suggest that there is a "world view" or "national view" or "coast view" that I could zoom in on that would list the charts that cover the area zoomed into.   i.e. click on Google's Maps link, you see the whole nation and you can then zoom in on the area that interests you.

I would also suggest that the ability to type in a city name and have a list of all charts that cover that city.  i.e. Kitty Hawk, NC.  Results would display a map view with chart numbers that cover the waters surrounding Kitty Hawk, NC.

Additionally, there are problems with EyeSpy launch pad:

The Highlight area that allows you to select an area of the chart....   ...I can not Drag/Drop the area from one area to another.  The zoom buttons are not scrollable.   Again the Google maps example...   ...You can drag and zoom with ease.

Thanks again,

5/27/2007 10:16 PM

HI,

A Good Idea?  This service is a wonderful idea, and a great service to the taxpaying boating public.  More Agencies should take note of the kind of taxpayer friendly services your Agency has developed; useful ones, not like the usual pointless blather.  We race and sail sloops, and use the charts to get familiar with areas we normally don't go to, and don't need a detailed chart set for just a race or two.
Nicely done, works well, great value.

Regards,

5/22/2007 6:25 AM

I checked it last night and it is working. Thanks, I really like to have
these charts for reference.

5/21/2007 9:41 PM

It is a great service for planning cruises at home.

Thanks!

5/21/2007 10:10 AM

I am unable to open the online chart viewer. Are you currently having problems with it?  I have used this tool several times before and found it to be a great tool to use for planning trips. I hope you continue to keep it open to the public, I have told many friends about it.

5/21/2007 9:08 AM

Thank you for the online viewer tool - it is a great tool for planning a trip when away from the boat without having to have a duplicate set of charts or carry them around all the time.

You asked to be notified if there is a problem viewing -

I was unable to access the charts over the weekend - May 20

Thanks again

5/21/2007 6:53 AM

Charts not loading as of 6:30am 21 May.  Not sure how long they have been down.  Great site, We link them to our shorefront vacation rental properties and receive many good comments.

I can not open any of the charts.  Not sure if it is your system or mine.

Thanks.

5/20/2007 1:17 PM

Is this service no longer operational? I am unable to open any charts.

5/20/2007 9:30 AM

Dear NOAA,

I have been able to use your online chart viewer  a few times in the past, but for the last several days I have been unable to open a single online chart. It would be helpful to know if you are having server problems or if the problem is on my end.

Thank you,

5/20/2007 7:25 AM

could not call up ANY charts through online viewer. thanx.

5/19/2007 4:01 PM

Hi ChartViewer

Is your online chart viewer deliberately disabled for Canadians?
The online chart viewer seems like a great idea, but the chart doesn't load, as shown in the attached screenshot.
I'm running a fully patched windows XP (home) O/S, and IE version 7.0.5730.11

5/14/2007 4:42 PM

Thank you for placing updated RNCs online for public download.
This is a super service -- one for which I do not mind spending a little extra tax money!
Keep up the good work!

5/11/2007 11:28 AM

Hello Chart view

I like it, but it is missing one important feature. It needs to be set up to display the GPS coordinates of a point on the map.

5/9/2007 3:56 PM

This site is way cool. I really like this.

5/4/2007 3:29 PM

Chart 11371 has some viewing areas that don't connect right with other areas.  Just noticed in the last two days.

4/25/2007 12:19 AM

Hi I really like this chart viewer but I’m having some problems finding the charts for Canada example Can. Chart # 3512 could you give me some help. I recently purchased a boat down in Port Angeles Wa. And I been using this site to prepare for my trip. I’m going from Port Angeles to Hoonah Alaska I have all the charts for Alaska but I have nothing for Canada Thanks

4/23/2007 10:49 AM

I love the service, but could not find the British Virgin Islands on-line  chart view. Am I missing something? Thanks

4/18/2007 12:29 PM

Great tool, especially for planning and getting an area overview.  Instant access, no ordering and waiting required.

A “hand icon” to drag the chart around to navigate instead of using arrows would be great.

Regards,

4/12/2007 7:14 AM

They don't work!  What happened?

4/11/2007 3:55 PM

I am creating an Anan Wildlife Observatory brochure.  Visitors arrive via
float plane or boat.  I was told about the online charts available.  I was
wondering if it would be possible to use a portion of the chart in the
brochure?  I am not sure who to go to with this question.

Thanks for your help.

4/6/2007 10:56 PM

Fantastic to be able to view charts and do 'top-line' trip planning and dreaming online.

Future version idea for you:

Would REALLY love to have a function/tool to be able to click on one point, drag a line to another point, and have a little distance scale show me the approximate distance!  When I'm zoomed out enough to see the latitude scale on the chart, I can't read it... zoomed in I can read, but most often can't see the distance scale and the area I'm checking out at the same time.

4/5/2007 12:23 PM

Thank you all for doing this. It is a great aid for novice or expert. Tax dollars well spent. (Never thought I would say that!)

The charts are excellent and are very easy to use.

The program manager and staff need a pat on the back.

Thanks again and keep up your "on-line" progress

Hello,

Please restore the on-line chart viewer as soon as possible.  These charts, when current with the latest Local Notice to Mariner's are the best way to verify one has the proper location for new wrecks or relocated aids to navigation.  They are much more useful for planning than the "booklet" charts that appear to have replaced them.  In addition the "booklet" charts are more than a year out of date for corrections; this is a unsafe practice.

As a former rescue diver and a proponent of safe boating I would argue that NOAA's on-line chart viewer (that is current) is a necessary component of safe voyage planning and navigation.

Thanks,

Thank you very much for the support on this initiative.  The charts will be very useful in our OCS planning initiatives.  Can you tell me who supplies the Lease Block overlay information?  Is this generated by Minerals Management Service, US DOI, and do you, by chance have a POC you could pass along?

Captain

It was good to talk to you on Friday. We have ordered the charts for you
and will be fedexing two copies to your office. We also will be happy to
help in the use of any RNCs and ENCs if you like.

Again, look forward to assisting in your work as needed.

I am working on integrating US Outer Continental Shelf regulations with MARPOL changes and standardizing CG data base information on OCS facilities with both IMO standards and MMS standards for nomenclature identifying oil and gas facilities by Lease Block.  The referenced charts are available for on-line viewing (a great resource), however in our planning process it would be great to have the traditional paper charts.  Are these charts still available in paper format, and if so, where could I purchase/obtain. I would much appreciate any assistance,
Rgds,

Very cool stuff. Do have some suggestions. In the "main chart" view (right hand chart), it would be better if one had a hand icon that allowed the map to be freely "moved" around via a click and drag. Similarly, in the overview chart on the left hand side, an ability to click and drag the symbol representing the area covered by the "main chart" on the right.

It also would be nice if the 2 chart views were aligned vertically rather than horizontally. There are a LOT of non-widescreen displays out there, and vertical alignment is more useful with such monitors.

Hi!

Thanks for putting the NOAA maps up on the internet for viewing!! It is a great resource that I am sure will get more and more use.  I really appreciated not having to go out and buy a chart to find out the roguh water depths.

I am working deploying scientific instruments for sampling water quality and just needed to know what the general water depth of the area was.  I have already looked at the paper chart to plan out the route, but just needed to quickly reference to confirm the general water depths.

The only improvement that I can offer is to suggest that some time and effort be spent on promoting the site.

Thanks,

3/7/2007 2:17 PM

Absolutely GREAT….This is so valuable to a person like me as I can sit home with the computer and enjoy the process of preplanning, navigating and educating myself further about the activity I so enjoy…

3/6/2007 10:55 AM

I must have been told a hundred times that I can print charts on my computer from NOAA.  Can you tell me how?  Thank you for your kind assistance.

2/25/2007 4:09 PM

Wonderful resource.

I suggest you do a page on the How To of using RNCs -- such as 1) buy a viewer from the list below, 2) download the selected files to a location on your HD, 3) open the viewer and direct it to the location of the file(s), 4) etc.

Isn't it true that all vector charts start with the raster charts produced by the government, to which vendors of vector charts add their own details?

2/24/2007 4:42 PM

Sir

Great site, it would be much better if a guy could find

where to down load your chart viewer?

NOAA  is the only government organization that is not screwing the public. Keep up the good work.

Thanks in advance for your help.

2/23/2007 4:16 PM

Thank you.  Would like to see Lat Lon on charts

2/22/2007 1:32 PM

GREAT SERVICE.  THANKS

2/19/2007 3:46 PM

I had trouble viewing the charts # 12235 and 12280. Unable to display shallow water depth. I was wondering about the software I SPY may be triggering a concern with my Computer Associates security software, or my eTrust personal firewall.

2/15/2007 5:30 PM

We use the charts for planning voyages.  They are very good.  We would like to be able to print portion of the charts on 8-1/2" x 11" sheets, so we could compare neighboring areas, etc.

2/12/2007 11:27 AM

Outstanding service, allows a "virtural" voyage while the boat is still under the snow.

2/10/2007 2:40 PM

Thank you for making the charts available this way. I find it very
convenient for getting an idea of where I want to take my next trip,
with my daysailor on the trailor. Printing out screen shots of the
navigation charts is far better than trying to plan trips from a
road map.

Using this service in conjunction with Google Earth (to identify and
examine boat ramps) is exactly what I have been wishing for, for
years.

regards,

2/8/2007 11:20 AM

The Chart Viewer application is absolutely wonderful and easy to use, particularly for planning purposes and just general homework.

Even with a dial-up phone line, the charts load fairly fast.  I think this is an important factor in the application’s usability.

It would be useful if the latitude and longitude of a mouse pointer could be displayed below the controls, with the user able to select the format of the latitude and longitude (DDD MM SS, DDD MM.MMM or DDD.DDDDD).

Near the bottom of the http://ocsdata.ncd.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/ web page, I suspect the plain block of text:

            More from NOAA

Nautical Chart Users Manual

Hydrographic Surveys

NOAA Chart Update Web Site

Wreck and Obstruction Database Web Site

Historical Charts

NowCOAST marine data portal

Digital Coastal Maps and Vector Shoreline

Distances Between U.S. Ports

should be a list of HTML links.

2/3/2007 10:59 AM

Excellent service.  I use it for research.  Many thanks.

2/1/2007 1:24 PM

Just a quick note to tell you how FANTASTIC this is. I really appreciate the fact that it is comprehensive, free, and you don't have to download extra software. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

2/1/2007 11:56 AM

Why was the service suspended?  This was an invaluable tool for a
multitude of purposes, and it's borderline criminal that its updates are
suspended.

What is the reason?

1/31/2007 2:34 PM

The NOAA online navigation chart access and viewer has been an invaluable service I have often used previous to its suspension.  It is quite frustrating not having it available on the internet after becoming accustomed to its usefulness and convenience!  When is the “temporary suspension” of service scheduled to be ended?

RE: “Service on the site www.NauticalCharts.gov has been temporarily suspended.”

I look forward to the resumption of this service at the earliest possible date.

Thanks,

1/28/2007 3:11 PM

Great Service!  It's really handy planning trips and figuring out what charts are needed

1/28/2007 1:11 PM

I was given the URL of what I assume is the entry page to this excellent
system. Looks really useful, so I bookmarked it. That proved confusing,
as the title of the page is "NUMBER". Perhaps you might like to make
this something a little more meaningful, as it is not a good title for
a bookmark !

Keep up the good work,

1/24/2007 3:59 PM

Basically, I like it.  It would be better if the charts could fill the screen instead of only a portion.

1/20/2007 12:57 PM

Is there a free viewer we can download to see the *.bsb or *.kap files

1/18/2007 5:11 PM

I'm a bit confused  "Service on the site www.NauticalCharts.gov has been temporarily suspended." ?

Did I not  undersand that you offered charts that could be viewed on a local PC ? ( I had placed this in a link on my own site some months ago ) This was a wonderful idea !  Is this the service you stopped, and if so , why ?

1/15/2007 4:05 PM

This service is awesome.
Add my vote to keeping it .gov funded and running!!!!!

1/12/2007 3:41 PM

Please tell me if the Chart Viewer has been put back up, the page still says it should be working by January 8th. It is now the 12th.

1/12/2007 9:33 AM

Dear NOAA:
I was wondering if it was possible to request a CD version of the online charts? As I frequently use the site, but due to network speeds it takes a while for me to gather all the information I want, and it would be helpful if I could view these maps off-line via a CD, and I was wondering if this was available?

Many thanks,

1/4/2007 6:35 AM

Not sure but seems in the last week I can't get the site to open charts.  Love the idea and when I got on was verrrrry happy.  Thanks.

1/3/2007 11:02 PM

I cannot get any of the charts to display at all (they worked fine a few weeks ago). The pubs all seem ok, but the charts will not display. Am I doing something wrong, or are they under construction, or ??

Anyway, I know you'll straighten it out, and I echo all the other attaboys in the comments section. Great service!

1/3/2007 10:21 AM

Trying to use chart viewer but loading bar runs part way and stops or eyespy window opens but shows only errors and no loading of chart view.

Would like to use this service, please correct problems if possible.

1/3/2007 8:11 AM

Chart 11484 does not display at all.

Is the site down ?

1/3/2007 5:09 AM

The charts no longer load for me in Internet explorer or Firefox.

Great product though, when it works.

Cheers,

1/2/2007 1:40 PM

I have tried on several occasions and days to download chart #11445 to use in my class as part of the NOAA Navigation Series to no avail.  Please help me!  Perhaps you could send it to me in .pdf format.

Thank you.

1/2/2007 1:36 PM

I have tried on several occasions and days to download chart #11445 to use in my class as part of the NOAA Navigation Series to no avail.  Please help me!

1/2/2007 11:08 AM

Attached please find a screen capture of the NOAA On-line Viewer from 2 Jan 2007, about 0800 PST, viewed in Firefox 1.5.0.9 (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.0.9) Gecko/20061206 Firefox/1.5.0.9).

As you can see, the web app is completely broken, at least in this browser. I examined the viewer after having many responses to my posted link to the viewer, reporting that it was broken. I've encouraged the others to likewise contact you as per http://ocsdata.ncd.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/.

Best regards,

1/2/2007 9:40 AM

When are you goimg to restore service to the chart viewer? Why did you pull it off-line? Get it back ASAP Please!

1/1/2007 5:05 PM

Hi, We use the charts as links on our website.  Very benificial to our shorefront rentals and real estate.  Great site, except it seems to be down quite frequently.  The charts for our links do not load as of Dec 29, 2006.  We are located at http://www.daagy.com/  Thanks for your effort in resolving the issuse and have a great new year.

12/31/2006 1:47 PM

I have tried to view several of the Pacific coast charts but none of them will load.  I get about 40% of the transfer then it just stops and sits there.  Is there some special software I need to view these on-line?  I have Adobe Acrobat, Adobe page maker, Adobe photoshop and all the Microsoft office suite so something should work.

12/30/2006 5:51 PM

The viewer is not working.

12/30/2006 5:05 PM

charts use to display for me but no longer do.  New window opens and and does not time out.  Using Firefox 5.0.

12/30/2006 10:07 AM

I have been trying for the last few days to view charts of the Gulf coast and never am able to open the particular chart.

It does not matter which chart.

q1. Can you confirm that this site is in fact working….

I am using Internet Explorer version 7. (7.0.5730.11C0)

Example, I try open chart 11328.

http://205.156.4.52/cgi-bin/EyeSpy.dll?launchpad&D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/11328.axs&wsx=750&wsy=550&bgcolor=ffffff&aligX=1&aligY=1

Spins for some time, then I get a message that the page can not be displayed.

Q2. Are there any special settings/scripts required to view these pages?

As an aside, Some weeks back I was able to use this site, but no longer.

Please advise.

12/29/2006 11:12 AM

I tried again today to use the NOAA chart viewer to access 12289 upper
Potomac River.  Better than yesterday's total failure, today, I got
some empty frames on the screen, and the notation
EYESPY
Error 001
Undefined Error

and no clicking on the empty frames seemed to work.

I hope you will be permitted to say why the updates were suspended
(like "Congressional failure to pass a budget?"), and that you can
help me figure out how to access the data still available.

Thanks for helping us to keep off the rocks.

12/28/2006 6:04 PM

I have been trying for several days to use the viewer but the charts do not load though I can get to the list. When I click on the chart number it seems to try to load but stops halfway through with a blank page.

I am particularly interested in the Portland area because my granddaughter in the US Coast Guard has just been assigned there.

Can you tell me what to do to get the system to work?

12/28/2006 3:39 PM

I am unable to download any chart for viewing.  I selected a chart from the east coast however the download does not proceed.

12/28/2006 9:11 AM
I have been trying to open charts from the site ‘http://ocsdata.ncd.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/AtlanticCoastViewerTable.htm’ for two days. It spends a lot of time trying and nothing comes down. IE (6 as well as 7) end up with a screen saying the site was inaccessible.

Thinking that only the Atlantic servers were down (I was looking fro East Coast charts), I tried the West coast and had the same result.

Pls help.

Sincerely,

12/27/2006 4:40 PM

Hi, is it just me or has the online chart viewer not been working for several days?

Thanks,

12/27/2006 4:04 PM

The charts won't load up. It just keeps trying to find the page and keeps trying until I stop it and back out.

12/27/2006 12:32 AM

TWIMC,

Great site. Truly impressive example of tax dollars at work. Problem? When I first found this site, the online viewer opened fine and the chart was perfect. As of 12/24, however, I couldn't open the viewer. I decided to change my browser to Firefox and still can't open the viewer. The page will open in new frame, but chart and associated screen don't appear after 20 minutes on DSL.

Any help or corrective action is appreciated.

12/26/2006 6:48 PM

I cannot get the charts to open anymore?

12/26/2006 12:08 PM

IS this service still operational?

I use it to practice my chart plotting skills

12/26/2006 11:43 AM

This service was great for route planning. It does not seem to retrieve any charts recently. Can you please turn it back on.

12/24/2006 12:59 PM

I have been unable to view charts for 2 days. Has there been a change in the setup requirements (problem at my end) or is there something wrong with the site? It is an excellent aid to exploring coastal waters and planning trips.

12/23/2006 11:56 AM

Hello,  this seems like a great service but the problem I had when visiting http://ocsdata.ncd.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/ is that I tried both the Atlantic and Gulf Coast maps and neither one of them loaded.   I'm running internet explorer 7 not sure if that the problem just the only bit of information I thought might help solve this problem.  Thanks and keep up the good work.

12/22/2006 3:54 PM

atlantic coast charts are all broken, none of the charts load, please look into this asap!

Thanks!!!

12/18/2006 11:24 PM

I think this service is absolutely fabulous!

I have a quick question:

I successfully downloaded and unzipped a chart file on a Mac running OSX, but am unable to open the chart. Am I missing the required app?

Thank you!

12/11/2006 8:10 AM

THANK YOU!  What a great site.  I do underwater archaeology and research and this site will save me hours and hours of time.  Normally I would go the the State Library and look at the appropriate chart and then have a small section scanned for report purposes.

I can't thank you enough for this site!

12/7/2006 5:24 PM

Love the opportunity to check for updates and make plans. I found a Notice to Mariners change that wasn’t shown.

District 13 notice 45-06 regarding 3 new buoys on chart 18449, “Seacrest warning buoys.”

Are they private and is that why they are not shown?

Thanks

12/6/2006 11:03 AM

AWESOME TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!
NOW THAT'S GOOD GOVT!!!!!!!!!

11/30/2006 10:15 PM

Awsome - like taking a trip and never leaving the farm.

Thanks!!

11/26/2006 12:35 PM

This is a great service.  We are using this to preview areas we plan to visit, make sure of anchoring places and plotting courses before we buy the paper charts to accompany us on our trips.  Is there a way to save the images to a file for later viewing?

Thanks,

11/17/2006 10:07 AM

This service is a necessity.

Any lack of government funding is a failure to the boating, fishing, waterway loving voting public.

11/14/2006 2:50 PM

This whole concept is fantastic. I hope funding is available to complete everything. Thank you.

11/9/2006 9:08 PM

The onlne chart viewer is a wonderfull aid that allows me to plan my weekend trips anywhere I am. I intend to use it to plan a longer trip this spring. THANKS.

11/2/2006 3:24 AM

The On-Line Chart viewer is a great service!  My only suggestion is to allow
us to have a larger portion of the chart on screen at one time.  I use a
large 20" monitor and could easily have 3 times the area you give on screen
at one time.  Larger area equals less scrolling and faster operations.

10/25/2006 5:12 PM

This is a fantastic service.  I use NOAA's website and telephone whether service all of the time for offshore forecasts.  Now I will be using NOAA even more frequently.

Very truly yours,

10/24/2006 12:29 AM

Superb!   Best if all the caribbean is included!

10/23/2006 11:13 PM

The viewer is useful.

It would help tremendously if you offered a write-to-file option that supported BMP, TIFF, JPEG or some other commonly used image format.

Thanks

10/22/2006 8:42 AM

Absolutely wonderful.  Thank you so much.

10/19/2006 10:15 AM

** High Priority **

Chart Number      14846   gives an error message as follows:    invalid
file name (D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/14846.axs)

of course, this is the area I fish...
Please let me know when resolved.

10/19/2006 4:04 AM

Absolutely wonderful to find this - previous trips I had to contact/find a chart house in Florida or Canada - depending on trip - from North Alabama.  Vast possibilities for my sea kayak now

Have a wonderful day,

10/18/2006 1:35 AM

Very nice addition. thanks for the fine work.

10/16/2006 6:45 PM

This is great. how do I print on demand charts for official business, (boat trips, investigative cases etc?)

10/15/2006 3:02 PM

I LOVE IT!

This is a "paper" chart that you can see in the dark!

THANKS!

10/11/2006 8:19 PM

This is a wonderful service! I can now plan outings ect. whit confidenc. Thanks!

10/10/2006 8:25 PM

Thank you!

Love it!!!!

10/10/2006 11:01 AM

Wonderful!  It is so good to see our tax dollars doing something useful.  The on-line chart services are a boon to navigation and boating safety.

10/9/2006 8:03 PM

I think this is a fantastic idea. We'll use it for planning trips, definitely.

Thank you.

10/7/2006 11:46 AM

Fantastic resource!  Thanks so much for making this available, it's one of coolest things on the web.

10/5/2006 4:42 PM

WOW! I’m impressed. What a great tool. Thank you.

10/5/2006 12:25 PM

Hello,

I just learned about your on-line chart viewer from a recent Local Notice to Mariners (LNM) published on-line by Coast Guard District 5.   I am a recreational boater, sailor and fisherman and will indeed be using your viewer as a "ready reference or planning tool" for all my activities.  I purchase a variety of printed paper (or waterproof) charts, but your on-line reference to the latest corrections will enhance safe navigation and fuel efficiency on the water.  Thank you for your efforts.

10/3/2006 11:08 PM

This is a superb service! It's useful for getting a quick view of a  potential cruise area (e.g., bridge clearances). We can choose an area to cruise, then get the appropriate charts, all without spending unecessarily.

10/3/2006 1:34 PM

The service is a great asset to me. Thank you.

The on-line Chart Viewer is a great tool.  I use it all the time.
Thanks.

I found a small error in the link index for Alaska at
http://www.nauticalcharts.gov/viewer/AlaskaViewerTable.htm

The scale  for chart Chart 16535 is listed as 1:80,000.  The correct
scale is 1:80,660.

Why can't a person just ask what he wants to do and have the map appear, such as Boston harbor to Miami via the intracoastal.

9/29/2006 11:48 AM

WONDERFUL !
You did it ! What a joy !  I'll pay my federal income tax a bit eaiser for knowing some of the mony is well spent.

I think your On-Line Chart Viewer is a great service. I have a pleasure
craft that I operate in Oyster Bay and Long Island Sound. I do use a
chart for that area, however the On-Line Viewer allows me to zoom in on a
specific area and identify any potential hazards that are difficult to
see when viewing them on the chart. I also use the On-Line Viewer to view
the latest updates.

Thank you for providing this excellent service.

9/27/2006 10:36 PM

This is great service. I am using it to relive past voyages, to dream about future ones and in the future I will use it for planning.

9/27/2006 1:01 PM

- LOVE IT!

- I'll be using the charts to plan our next trip which will start near Miami, down and around the florida keys and then up towards Tampa, Florida.

- Too bad you can't provide us with a chart reader that can run on our local PC (or could you?). The packages out there are kind of expensive.

Keep up the good work.

9/26/2006 10:41 AM

It would be nice if you could add a measuring tool for rough planning.  One could click points to start and end of a line and get the distance in nautical miles.  Ideally one could use more than two points to get the distance of multiple segments.

9/26/2006 9:53 AM

Just checked out this website after seeing an article in Power & Motoryacht magazine about it.  I boat in the Great Lakes area, specifically Saginaw Bay, Tawas, Caseville, Bay City area.  I liked the ability to have an updated chart and the fact that I could zoom in and see the water depths, landmarks, etc.   Very impressed with this service and will pass this website info to my fellow boaters.  It would be nice if there was a way to click on a point on the chart and get the GPS coordinates.  That option would be awsome for planning a trip!!!  I definately will be using this site for future reference.

9/25/2006 4:57 PM

Great addition to a Mariners tools.  Perhaps one of the most helpful services our govt has ever offered.!!

Great site. Used to see chart sections in great detail and to be certain of marks when going to relatively unfamiliar waters. Excellent navigation aid

9/20/2006 8:08 PM

I am very impressed with this service. As a recreational boater, this will help me to prepare for cruises in the future. Thank you.

Thank you for your comments about the NOAA Online Chart Viewer.

I passed your inquiry to one of our senior cartographers for
verification.  He said the buoy in question is Quahog Bay Lighted Buoy 3
(Light List Number 6645).  The buoy was relocated in LNM 45/02 to 43°
43' 01.419"N / 069° 57' 37.410"W.  This is the current location in
ATONIS (the US Coast Guard Aides to Navigation database), in our
Critical Information database, and on chart images 13290 & 13288.  All
are in agreement.  The Raster Navigational Chart (RNC), Print-on-Demand
chart (POD) and Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) images we maintain
are all in agreement with the information we recieved from the USCG who
maintain Quahog Bay Lighted Buoy 3.  As an added precaution, I also
resubmitted charts 13288 and 13290 to be updated in the NOAA Online
Chart Viewer.  These updated images should be available on the viewer
late this morning or early this afternoon.

problems, please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail.

Hi, Great Service. Where can I find the Chart of the western Atlantic? How about the entire Atlantic Great Circle charts?

Thanks,

I just learned of your on-line chart viewer from this months edition of BoatUS. I immediately went to your site and I have to tell you I am very impressed. This is a terrific service to the boat owning public. Please accept my thanks for providing this service.

Sincerely,

9/13/2006 12:41 PM
This is a rerun of all the other positive comments. In a word, outstanding!

9/12/2006 3:18 PM
I think this is a great service. Please keep up the good work!

9/11/2006 12:00 PM

Maybe not a god idea, but certainly a good idea.
Thanks

9/11/2006 12:05 AM

Wow! Excellent! I can use this service to preview charts I'd like to buy for our boat!! I can better identify what charts are available in which scale for the areas we're looking for! How wonderful!

A tiny recommendation... it would be good to see an indicator on the map page so you know how far you can (and have) zoomed in or out.

Anyway, the service is fabulous!!!

9/9/2006 10:31 AM

Very valuable service

Thanks for providing it

9/7/2006 11:58 PM

Awesome setup! It is about time we came into the new age! Thanks!

9/4/2006 8:42 PM

Very useful.

Allows me to plan a trip when I an not at the location of my charts.

9/4/2006 12:21 PM

When I Try to pull up "on line charts" ...I get a message that it is a message error and can not be brought up on the server+/_???

9/3/2006 7:06 PM

Terrific link, thank you for providing this service. I use it for trip planning....stops, fuel forecast, and playing what if want to go to....

9/3/2006 1:18 PM

I love it. It is a great planning tool.

9/3/2006 10:35 AM

Great service but 'drag over coordinate display' would be a nice addition.  No problem accessing all charts I've looked at so far.

9/2/2006 3:52 PM

Thanks for the charts online!!

9/1/2006 7:06 PM

This is fantastic!!!!  What a joy to be able to sit at the computer and bring up charts for planning.  Worked perfectly for me.

9/1/2006 6:24 PM

The screen size needs to be in enlarged.  It should be full size.

9/1/2006 5:49 PM

It come up page cannot be displayed

9/1/2006 1:33 PM

I think your site is terrific.  However you do have a problem with chart 12316 invalid file name (D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/12316.axs)

Keep up the good work.

Thanks,

8/31/2006 9:39 PM

This is nice, but from a practical standpoint, it would be better if the small index chart in the upper left of the screen were moved to the upper right. This would place the upper left corner of the actual chart in the upper left corner of the printing field and would allow the valueless index chart to fall beyond the right margin of the printing field, thereby permitting one to print the actual chart at a larger scale.

8/31/2006 9:33 AM

Great web site

8/31/2006 9:28 AM

Great Product. Very useful for planning. A government expenditure of significant value to the user.

8/30/2006 4:04 PM

FANTASTIC!!!!!

Thank You

8/30/2006 3:09 PM

I just wanted to let you know I think its a great service . I can use these charts as reference before I go there...

8/29/2006 10:03 PM

This is a great service; one that really contributes to the safety and convenience of boaters.  Nice to see a government service that so readily serves the public.

8/29/2006 3:39 PM

Hello – I think anyone with a little perseverence and dedication can use this service combined with a GPS.  It is a great service (and a lot cheaper than dropping a “boat buck” on instrumentation and charts.  It also beats paper charts.  Thanks!

8/29/2006 12:03 PM

The service is GREAT,

Thank you

8/29/2006 9:23 AM

Ken,

Thanks for your comments about NOAA's On-Line Chart Viewer. Sounds like you needed additional functionality beyond what the Chart Viewer provides. I'm glad you found software that met your needs. We try to identify such resources on our free Raster Navigational Chart download site (http://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/Raster/Index.htm). We e-mailed the makers of SeaClear asking if they wanted to be listed, but they never responded.

As to the functionality of the Chart Viewer, its advantages are that it's available anywhere in the country (or world) using just an Internet browser - no application software or setup is required. Also, the charts are updated daily with all Notices to Mariners and new editions. (Note: There is a 48 hour delay between the appearance of an NTM and its application and posting in the Chart Viewer.) Finally, it's simple to use.

We try not to develop or support end-user software. We're not set up to do that, and the private sector does such a fine job that we try to not compete. We're happy doing the best we can to gather accurate data, compile useful (and used) chart products, and getting them to the public. The function set of the ChartViewer probably is a little archaic compared to purpose-built application software, but the comments we've gotten (see www.NauticalCharts.gov/viewer, "Your Comments") indicate that it's useful.

We have other archaic products that we've added over the last few years to try and increase our level of public service. You might want to investigate some of these.

Original Message:

Comments on NOAA charts particular the "viewer aspect".
Are you aware that there exists a superb free plotting program and viewer called SeaClear
www.Sping.com <http://www.Sping.com> "Spring with the R missing"
Although Sping will process Nema sentences, the chart viewing aspect on my home desktop computer with 27 downloaded Chesapeake Bay charts, makes your viewers archaic. I also use the Nema GPS Seaclear instructions on a small laptop as a boat chart plotter.
I found the Seaclear setup instructions a little laborious especially if you use self calibrated charts.
So I made a 1 page double sided writup for my sailing club for setting up SeaClear to plot or view self calibrated charts.
If you desire I can e-mail you a copy of my writeup.

invalid file name (D:/EyeSpy/images/Online_Chart_Viewer/11467.axs)
when trying to view 11467 ... happens with other charts as well

8/29/2006 12:19 AM

Great service. Keep up the good work.
Congress must continue to support this effort.

8/28/2006 9:53 PM

The viewer works great.

I would like to be able to make the viewer area bigger to better fit my
larger display.

8/28/2006 6:21 PM

Wonderful service to business intelligence and general dream-making.

Please, please add NOAA-25720.  Also the Bahamas and Caribbean when you can.

Thanks,

8/28/2006 2:35 PM

Your online charts are excellent!!!   I've already added the web site to my favorites.

Regards,

8/28/2006 11:23 AM

Your chart viewer is excellent for planning, and verifying which paper charts I need to purchase.

A considerable amount of work and resources were obviously involed and I just wanted to say thank you.

8/28/2006 10:52 AM

I find your new on-line chart viewer to be marginally useful because
it oes not provide and latitude and longitude information ... will you
be adding this?

8/28/2006 8:23 AM

Great site!!!  When will we be able to get the Canadian charts i.e. St. Lawrence River???

8/27/2006 3:49 PM

Love this service!  I'm sure I'll use it a lot!

8/27/2006 1:14 PM

you all ought to be ashamed of your selfs for not advertising this site more , such a great resourse as this and i found it by  chance,  shame on you , lol ,kidding aside, realy great site that should  be linked to every nautical site on the web ,  thank you

8/25/2006 8:06 AM

This is a really good idea. Very useful for basic information

8/24/2006 8:59 PM

I cannot get the page to display. The window pops up but the page will not display. I am looking for USVI charts. Is the site down?

8/24/2006 8:21 PM

I tried to view several charts and got "page not found" for each one. I was not able to view a single chart.

I used the URL:  www.nauticalcharts.gov/viewer

8/24/2006 7:37 PM

I have tried ti access your charts, however, before they  can be accessed I get "Gateway Timed Out". Am I doing something wrong??

8/24/2006 7:26 PM

I cannot get any of the charts to load.  The system seems to timeout and stop loading.

8/21/2006 10:32 AM

Bob,

Thanks for your e-mail about the On-Line Chart Viewer. It takes about 48 hours for NTM-corrections and new chart editions to show up on the Chart Viewer. Part of the 24 of those hours are timing-related (chart corrections applied during the day are submitted in the evening to the Chart Viewer engine for processing, and processed at 3 a.m. the next morning), and 24 of those hours are an intentional delay in the e-commerce subscription engine that submits the orders (For example, Print-on-Demand subscribers get a 24-hour notification that their subscribed chart has changed, and that a copy will automatically be printed and shipped in 24 hours unless they cancel it.).

The delay may even be a bit longer if the cartographers get behind in their weekly application of NTM corrections. Sometimes we don't get them all processed on the day the USCG publishes them. New editions usually only see the 48 hour delay.

As this service settles down, and we get comments like yours from the public, we'll know where we need to make improvements.

Thanks again. Dave

Your write-up states that "Each chart is up-to-date with the most recent Notices to Mariners." When I received my email announcing the online availability of my copy of "Fifth-cg-dlnm Digest, Vol 17, Issue 3", I immediately went to it. I noted that the new edition of 12270 (34th Ed. 1 Aug 2006) was announced. The chart on your page is still the 33rd Edition. When is your chart display updated relative to the LNMs? I really like the online chart viewer. Makes a great planner and day-dreaming tool! Bob Goley

Overall - this chart view service is one of the best
I've seen - lots of fun to use

8/23/2006 7:28 AM

Dave,

Sorry for the one-day delay.  I just completed testing Chart Viewer on
Firefox and Safari with MacOS X (v 10.4.7).   Everything ran very
smoothly.    Same results as Lawrence.
Best regards,

Charts don't display on my mac OSX Safari browser.  Thanks

8/6/2006 6:57 PM

This is an invaluable service to myself and others who regularly ply the waters of the Northeast and elsewhere in our kayaks.

8/5/2006 5:16 PM

The on line chart viewer is terrific.  Great work!!!!!

8/2/2006 11:12 AM

The online charts availability through NOAA is fabulous!!!  The service will augment my chart information when I access online through my mobile phone when on the water.

Thank you,

8/2/2006 9:54 AM

WoW!

This is a great utility. I can see using it to:

1. check my paper chart for updates (viewer showed most recent dredged depth of a local harbor, for example.)

2. Preview coverage area, etc. of charts before ordering.

3. Long cruise pre-planning.

The viewing area did not fill my screen, requiring a closer zoom in than I would like, but that is a function of the individual moniter used.

7/31/2006 7:52 AM

Dear Sirs:

I happened upon the NOAA Nautical Chart On-Line Viewer, Great Lakes (including adjacent waterways) at http://www.nauticalcharts.gov/viewer/GreatLakesTable.htm   There a small typo in one entry of personal interest (*).  "Harobr" should read "Harbor"

(I'd previously found the historical versions, early 1900's, of these charts at http://historicals.ncd.noaa.gov/historicals/histmap.asp)

I then browsed the Display Charts option from http://www.nauticalcharts.gov/  (I recognized the have the Maptech software which I have.) This worked great when I entered "Crystal Lake" and "Michigan" although I had to sort out the right Crystal Lake (44 39 33 N x 86 09 23 W) from 24 entries.  This also included a number of nearby places.  A search on Zipcode 49635 only retrieved the Lake itself.  I checked out the Advanced Search to determine that I could search by lat/long.

7/24/2006 9:47 PM

Great Service !

7/24/2006 2:48 PM

The only issue I can see is that the images are to small. It would be nice to have a full screen option.

7/21/2006 5:34 PM

I think it's the greatest. We've needed something like this for a long time.

7/20/2006 9:28 AM

thanks, great product.

7/19/2006 10:54 PM

I found this website well designed and the chart viewer(s) extremely useful!

It's not very often that we see tax dollars so well spent...

7/19/2006 3:36 PM

This is the best site I've found since my first home page!

Have begun the process of planning a great circle trip starting from Florida.  You have saved me mega $.  Thanks!   Would need to buy the charts to do the planning then updated charts to do the trip, that's real dollars to working folk.

Thanks for putting Tax dollars to "good" use....

7/17/2006 9:02 AM

Great Idea and Thank You for this service! However, It'd be great to be able to print out an 8x10 version of the charts. For example, taking the Racine, WI chart (14925) and blowing it up 2-3 times then printing it gives you the chart on approx 1/4 the sheet of paper. Included onthe printed page, I;m sure you know, is the text on the viewer and a lot of "white space" on the  bottom of the page.

Why not make "right side" chart..the oneyou;ve zoomed in on, downloadable to a Adobe Acrobat file-type photo which would then use all of the page filled in and much greated detail.

7/17/2006 8:58 AM

Terrific service!  Only suggestion would be to index the charts in way that would be easier to home in on the one needed...perhaps by state.

7/14/2006 3:40 PM

This is the greatest web site ever.  I wasted about half my day rummaging through charts.

7/14/2006 1:44 PM

After a quick review I find that this service should prove very valuable for
me in my private life.  I visit many different places around the United
States and they all seem to be around the coast line.  Once of the first
things I do is get a chart so I can see how thin the water is that I may be
treading on.

My only recommendation is if it were somehow possible to show maybe under
the overview map on the left a representation of if the chart shows depths
in feet, fathoms or meters.  On each chart I went to that was the first
thing I had to do was to zoom in to find that information.

Thank you for a great new service.

7/14/2006 12:30 PM

Understood, however in this instance, I was trying to locate a specific offshore platform in the Gulf of Mexico and the overview image is insufficiently clear to determine accurate estimates of Lat and Long.

Still a nice application though.

7/14/2006 10:19 AM

Nice to be able to jump on-line and take a glance at a chart.  One complaint - once I've zoomed in, it becomes very difficult to tell where I am on the chart; unable to view Lat & Long to determine if I need to scroll
